Congratulations to the LHHS Philharmonic & Symphonic Orchestras!!! Both orchestras earned a Sweepstakes Award at the UIL Concert and Sight Reading Contest on February 28th!!!
Each group prepared 3 pieces to perform for 3 judges on stage along with performing a piece they have never seen before (called sight reading) for 3 different judges. All 6 judges give the orchestra a score from 1 – 4, 1 being the highest, based on their performance. A sweepstakes award is given when the judges give the orchestra an overall 1 on stage AND sight reading. This amazing feat has not been accomplished for about 20 years! We had a great event at LHHS on Sat., Aug. 25th! Thanks to everyone who contributed documents for shredding and/or electronics and household items.
We collected about 8,000 pounds of documents for shredding, filled a recycle truck, and raised $4,441 for the orchestra club. A special thank-you to our sponsors: Advocate Magazine, Shred-It, and Bubb Fundraising! On May 22nd the LHJH and FMJH orchestras participated in the NRH2O Music Festival. The Advanced & Intermediate Orchestras of LHJH combined together and received a Superior Rating, as also did the FMJH Advanced & Intermediate Orchestras.
The LHJH orchestra was named Best in Class Varsity Orchestra. Both the LHJH beginner orchestra and the FMJH beginner orchestra, each made up of all elementary feeder school orchestras, received Superior Ratings as well. Congratulations to the students and their amazing teachers, Mrs. Dittman (LHJH) and Ms. Taeger (FMJH)! |
